Until a year ago, I had never even heard of the term “steampunk”. Now it seems to be an increasingly popular subculture that is leaking into everyday life. You think it would hit my part of the world first, being in the theatre/costume biz, which may be why when I mention it to friends and family, they have no idea what I am talking about. So what is “steampunk”? The ever reliable Wikipedia has a great article that really gets down to the nitty gritty about the origins and so forth, but I would describe it as modern/pop culture fashion and technology that has been redesigned with a Victorian twist.
For your enjoyment, I have included a few photos depecting the steampunk style, including “Steampunk Star Wars” and “Steampunk Ghostbusters”.
